  • MacNew Heart Disease Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) Score: Explanation and Clinical Context
The MacNew Heart Disease HRQOL questionnaire is a validated patient-reported outcome tool designed to assess the impact of heart disease on a patient’s physical, emotional, and social functioning. It consists of 27 items rated on a 7-point Likert scale (1 = poor, 7 = excellent), which are grouped into three domains: Physical Limitation, Emotional Function, and Social Function.
The overall HRQOL score is calculated as the mean of the three domain scores, providing a summary measure of a patient’s perceived health-related quality of life. Higher scores indicate better quality of life and less disease impact.
This tool is widely used in clinical trials and routine practice to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, monitor patient outcomes, and facilitate patient-centered care.
