  • SF-36 Physical Function Domain: Explanation and Clinical Context
The SF-36 Physical Function (PF) domain evaluates the extent to which health limits physical activities, from vigorous activities such as running or lifting heavy objects to basic self-care tasks. It consists of 10 items, each scored on a Likert scale. The total raw score is converted to a 0–100 scale, where higher scores indicate better physical functioning.
This tool is widely used in cardiac rehabilitation to assess baseline functional status and track improvements after interventions. It helps clinicians tailor exercise programs, monitor recovery, and predict long-term outcomes in cardiovascular patients.
