This tool estimates a woman’s 10-year risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), incorporating traditional risk factors such as age, blood pressure, lipid profile, and smoking status, with an additional adjustment for age at menopause.
Early menopause (before 55 years) is independently associated with increased ASCVD risk due to prolonged estrogen deficiency.
The algorithm applies a risk adjustment factor of 2% per year of menopause before age 55, added to a baseline Framingham-like risk model.
This tool is intended to provide clinicians with a more individualized ASCVD risk estimate for postmenopausal women, aiding in preventive counseling and therapeutic decision-making.
