TyG Index (Triglyceride–Glucose Index) Calculator
Calculate TyG Index
Enter fasting plasma glucose and triglycerides in mg/dL. Calculate the index using the published formula.
There is no single universally accepted diagnostic cutoff for all populations and outcomes. Interpret this value in the context of the population, study protocol, and other clinical findings.
About the TyG Index
The triglyceride–glucose (TyG) index is a surrogate marker studied as an estimate of insulin resistance. It is calculated from fasting triglyceride and fasting plasma glucose concentrations.
Formula
TyG = ln [ triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL) / 2 ]
ln denotes the natural logarithm. Both laboratory values must be positive and expressed in mg/dL for this implementation of the formula.
Clinical context
- Higher values have been associated with insulin resistance and cardiometabolic risk in a range of research populations.
- TyG is a surrogate measure, not a direct measurement of insulin sensitivity and not a stand-alone diagnostic test for diabetes or metabolic syndrome.
- Published cutoffs vary by population, endpoint, assay context, and study design. This calculator therefore does not assign a universal “normal” range or diagnose disease.
