  • QUICKI Insulin Sensitivity Index Explanation and Clinical Context
QUICKI is a validated surrogate marker to estimate insulin sensitivity that uses fasting glucose and fasting insulin values. It provides a simple and reproducible method to screen metabolic health in clinical and research settings. The mathematical structure of QUICKI gives a continuous scale where lower values reflect diminished insulin sensitivity such as in metabolic syndrome or type two diabetes. Normal QUICKI values typically range from about zero point three three to zero point four five depending on population characteristics and laboratory methodology. Higher QUICKI values reflect better insulin mediated glucose uptake while lower values correlate with insulin resistance and elevated cardiometabolic risk. Clinicians use QUICKI to support metabolic risk stratification, to monitor changes during lifestyle or pharmacologic intervention, and to complement broader cardiometabolic assessment in high risk individuals. Although QUICKI does not replace gold standard methods such as the hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp it offers a practical quantitative measure that aligns well with physiologic insulin sensitivity.
