Steroid Dose Conversion Calculator
- This tool converts the dose of a selected glucocorticoid to the equivalent dose of another glucocorticoid based on established relative anti inflammatory potency.
- Steroid Dose Conversion Explanation and Clinical Context
Glucocorticoids vary in anti inflammatory potency mineralocorticoid activity and biological half life so dose conversion is required to maintain therapeutic equivalence when switching agents. Hydrocortisone prednisone prednisolone methylprednisolone and dexamethasone possess different relative strengths with dexamethasone being the most potent per milligram. Clinical conversion uses standardized potency ratios to avoid under treatment or excessive exposure which may lead to adverse effects such as hyperglycemia fluid retention hypertension infection risk and hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis suppression. Correct dose equivalence supports safe transitions during tapering stress dose adjustment or changes in clinical indication. This tool applies established potency ratios to provide a systematic conversion result suitable for bedside or outpatient decision support.
