Cockcroft Gault Creatinine Clearance Calculator

  • Age in years
  • Weight in kilograms
  • Serum creatinine in mg per dL
  • Sex
  • Cockcroft Gault creatinine clearance estimation Explanation and clinical context
The Cockcroft Gault equation provides an estimate of creatinine clearance in milliliters per minute using patient age weight serum creatinine and sex. The formula is CrCl equals open parentheses 140 minus age close parentheses times weight divided by open parentheses 72 times serum creatinine close parentheses. For female patients multiply the result by 0.85. This estimate was originally derived from adult male subjects and remains widely used for drug dosing and renal function assessment in clinical practice. The calculation yields an uncorrected creatinine clearance value in milliliters per minute. It does not account for body surface area unless the value is normalized to 1.73 square meters separately. Clinicians should interpret the result in the context of clinical status muscle mass and recent changes in renal function. In patients with extremes of body weight or low muscle mass consider alternative methods or measured creatinine clearance when precise assessment is required.
