Hypertensive-Mediated Organ Damage (HMOD) Index Calculator

  • Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH) by ECG/Echo
  • Renal Impairment (eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73m² or Albuminuria)
  • Arterial Stiffness / Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT >0.9mm)
  • Hypertensive Retinopathy (Grade >1)
  • Hypertensive-Mediated Organ Damage (HMOD) Index: Explanation and Clinical Context
HMOD Index is a validated tool to quantify the cumulative impact of hypertension on target organs including the heart, kidneys, arteries, and retina.
It considers the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), renal impairment (eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73m² or albuminuria), arterial stiffness (e.g., carotid intima-media thickness >0.9mm), and hypertensive retinopathy (grade >1).
The total score ranges from 0 to 4, with higher scores indicating greater organ damage and elevated risk for cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease.
This tool assists clinicians in stratifying hypertensive patients, guiding therapeutic intensity, and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment.
