  • CAAP-AF and CABANA: Explanation and Clinical Context
The CAAP-AF score predicts rhythm success following atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation by incorporating six baseline parameters: coronary artery disease, left atrial (LA) diameter, age, AF type (persistent vs paroxysmal), number of antiarrhythmic drugs failed, and female sex. Each reflects underlying atrial disease and treatment refractoriness. Higher scores correlate with lower 2-year AF-free survival after ablation.

While the CABANA trial provided robust comparative data between ablation and medical therapy, it did not produce an individualized success prediction model. The CAAP-AF score complements CABANA insights by offering a patient-specific estimation tool to guide expectations and decision-making.
