Cystatin C-NT-proBNP Combined Risk Score Calculator
- Cystatin C–NT-proBNP Combined Risk Score: Explanation and Clinical Context
The Cystatin C–NT-proBNP Combined Risk Score is designed to stratify patients' cardiovascular risk by integrating renal function (Cystatin C) and cardiac stress marker (NT-proBNP).
Elevated Cystatin C reflects impaired kidney function and has been associated with higher cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. NT-proBNP indicates myocardial wall stress and is a robust predictor of heart failure and adverse cardiovascular events.
By combining these biomarkers, the score provides improved risk prediction compared to either marker alone. Patients with both elevated Cystatin C and NT-proBNP are classified as high risk, those with only one elevated marker as intermediate risk, and those with neither as low risk.
This tool aids clinicians in risk stratification, therapeutic decision-making, and early intervention planning for patients with or at risk for cardiovascular disease.
