- EFFECT Risk Score: Explanation and Clinical Context
The EFFECT Risk Score is a validated clinical tool developed to predict in-hospital and 30-day mortality in patients hospitalized with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). It incorporates key clinical variables including age, systolic blood pressure, serum sodium, serum creatinine, history of heart failure, and presence of diabetes. Each variable is assigned points according to its association with mortality risk, and the total score stratifies patients into low, intermediate, or high risk categories. This risk stratification aids clinicians in making informed decisions regarding monitoring intensity, therapeutic interventions, and discharge planning, providing a practical method for risk assessment at bedside.
