The benefit is consistent across diabetic and smoking populations, though absolute risk reduction is higher in those with pre-existing CVD due to a higher baseline event rate.

    Clinically, annual influenza vaccination should be considered part of routine secondary prevention strategies in older adults and high-risk cardiac patients. In this calculator, the estimated ‘Number Needed to Vaccinate’ (NNV) reflects the population-level preventive efficiency, highlighting the substantial cardioprotective potential of flu immunization in this vulnerable group.
