10-Year Cardiovascular Risk Estimate

Enter the patient’s non-laboratory risk factors. This version uses BMI instead of total and HDL cholesterol.

Validated model range: 30–74 years.
Sex-specific coefficients are used.
Use measured BMI; plausible input range enforced for error prevention.
Use the patient’s measured systolic pressure.
Diabetes is a required predictor in the published model.

About the BMI-based Framingham model

The non-laboratory Framingham general cardiovascular disease model estimates 10-year risk using age, BMI, systolic blood pressure and whether blood pressure is treated, smoking status, diabetes status, and sex-specific coefficients. In this model, BMI replaces total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol; lipid values are therefore not required.

Outcome and intended population

The original general CVD outcome includes coronary death, myocardial infarction, coronary insufficiency/angina, stroke, transient ischemic attack, peripheral artery disease, and heart failure. The derivation cohort included adults aged 30–74 years who were free of CVD at baseline. Performance and calibration may differ in other populations.

Use in practice

  • Confirm input units and treatment status before calculation.
  • Do not interpret the estimate as a substitute for clinical assessment or local prevention guidelines.
  • The original Framingham cohort may not calibrate accurately to every country or ethnic population without external validation or recalibration.
