  • IPS Prognosis Score Explanation and Clinical Context
The International Prognostic Score is a validated tool originally developed to estimate prognosis in patients with advanced Hodgkin lymphoma. Although primarily applied in hematology, the variables included such as albumin, LDH, sodium level, age, white cell count, lymphocyte percentage, and sex represent global markers of systemic illness and physiological reserve. Each variable contributes one point when it exceeds the threshold considered clinically unfavorable. The total score ranges from zero to seven and higher scores are associated with progressively poorer survival. The score helps clinicians estimate risk, discuss prognosis, and integrate overall health status into treatment planning. It also reflects the degree of systemic inflammation and metabolic stress which have been linked with adverse outcomes across many clinical settings.
