  • Modified Asthma Predictive Index Explanation and Clinical Context
The Modified Asthma Predictive Index is a validated clinical tool used to estimate the risk of developing persistent asthma in children who present with recurrent wheezing during early childhood. The index is designed to differentiate transient wheezing associated with viral illness from an evolving chronic airway disease pattern. The tool uses a combination of major and minor clinical criteria that reflect genetic predisposition atopy and airway inflammation. A positive result indicates a significantly increased probability of developing persistent asthma by school age while a negative result suggests a lower likelihood. The Modified API supports early counseling monitoring and identification of children who may benefit from targeted prevention strategies or early therapeutic intervention.
