  • NSVT Duration Index: Explanation and Clinical Context
The NSVT Duration Index quantifies the burden of nonsustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT) over a defined monitoring period. It is calculated as the total duration of NSVT episodes divided by the total duration of monitoring (in minutes).
This index provides a standardized measure to assess arrhythmic risk in patients with cardiomyopathies, ischemic heart disease, or those at risk for sudden cardiac death.
Clinically, higher NSVT Duration Index values correlate with an increased likelihood of sustained ventricular arrhythmias and may guide decisions regarding implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy.
While individual thresholds vary, an index >0.1–0.2 s/min has been associated with elevated arrhythmic risk in multiple electrophysiology studies.
