  • Pediatric Early Warning Score PEWS Explanation and Clinical Context
Pediatric Early Warning Score is a structured bedside tool used to identify early signs of clinical deterioration in hospitalized children. It organizes the evaluation into three domains which are behavior cardiovascular status and respiratory status. Each domain assigns a score from zero to three based on deviation from normal physiology and the sum represents the total risk. A higher score reflects a progressive decline in the child condition and flags the need for timely escalation of care. Clinicians use PEWS to improve situational awareness facilitate communication among staff and reduce preventable adverse events by activating rapid response teams earlier. PEWS serves as a simple and reproducible instrument that improves safety in pediatric wards and emergency settings.
