RCPCH Myocarditis Prognosis Score Calculator
- RCPCH Myocarditis Prognosis Score: Explanation and Clinical Context
The RCPCH Myocarditis Prognosis Score is a clinical risk tool developed to estimate the probability of adverse outcomes, including death or requirement for mechanical circulatory support, in children presenting with acute myocarditis.
It uses variables available at presentation, including age, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), serum lactate, and troponin level.
A higher score correlates with increased risk of poor outcome. Low scores generally indicate favorable prognosis, intermediate scores suggest need for close monitoring, and high scores identify patients at risk for critical deterioration.
This tool assists pediatric cardiologists and intensivists in early risk stratification, guiding management decisions, and prioritizing resources.
