- SCD-HeFT Risk Model: Explanation and Clinical Context
The SCD-HeFT Risk Model estimates the 5-year risk of all-cause mortality in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) who are candidates for implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy.
The model uses clinical variables available at baseline, including age, NYHA functional class, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), presence of ischemic heart disease, and QRS duration.
It was derived from the Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure Trial (SCD-HeFT) cohort and validated to stratify patients into low, intermediate, and high-risk categories for mortality.
This tool helps clinicians in risk stratification, treatment planning, and ICD therapy decision-making.
