- STS-IE Surgical Risk Model: Explanation and Clinical Context
The STS-IE (Society of Thoracic Surgeons – Isolated Valve Surgery) Risk Model is a validated tool to predict postoperative mortality and major morbidity for patients undergoing isolated valve surgery.
It uses patient-specific clinical variables including age, sex, previous cardiac surgery, NYHA functional class, left ventricular ejection fraction, diabetes, and renal failure.
The calculated score represents the estimated probability of perioperative adverse events, assisting clinicians in preoperative risk stratification, patient counseling, and surgical planning.
