Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) Calculator

  • Gender (M/F)
  • BMI (kg/m²)
  • Waist Circumference (WC) in cm
  • Triglycerides (TG) in mmol/L
  • HDL-Cholesterol (HDL-C) in mmol/L
  • Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI): Explanation and Clinical Context
Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) is a gender-specific mathematical model that estimates visceral fat function and distribution using simple anthropometric and metabolic parameters: BMI, waist circumference, triglycerides, and HDL-cholesterol.
VAI correlates with cardiometabolic risk and insulin sensitivity, providing a surrogate marker for visceral obesity, which is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
Normal VAI values vary by gender, but a higher VAI indicates increased visceral fat dysfunction and higher cardiometabolic risk.
This tool is intended for clinical and research use to stratify metabolic and cardiovascular risk in adults.
