VO2/VE Ratio Index Calculator

Ratio calculator

Enter oxygen uptake and minute ventilation from the same CPET time point. The result is a mathematical ratio, not a validated risk score.

—mL/L

Use absolute VO₂, not weight-normalized VO₂.

mL/min

Enter ventilation in liters per minute, measured at the same time point as VO₂.

L/min
—VO₂ / V̇E
Calculated ratio

Enter both values

The result will appear when both inputs are valid positive numbers.

Clinical note: No universal normal range or standalone prognostic cutoff for this ratio is provided here. Do not interpret it using the legacy 0.19–0.25 mL/L range without confirming the exact variable definition and units in the source protocol.

About the ratio

This calculator divides absolute oxygen uptake (VO₂, mL/min) by minute ventilation (V̇E, L/min), producing a value in mL O₂ per liter of ventilation (mL/L).

Use measurements from the same CPET time point and confirm that the source system reports VO₂ as an absolute value. If VO₂ is entered in mL/kg/min, the output is weight-normalized and cannot be labeled simply as mL/L.

Interpretation limits

  • This tool performs arithmetic only and does not assign a normal/abnormal category.
  • CPET interpretation should integrate symptoms, protocol, effort, gas-exchange data, and the clinical context.
  • Do not confuse VO₂/V̇E with the more established V̇E/VCO₂ relationship used in ventilatory-efficiency assessment.
