  • Zero-Fluoro Safety Index: Explanation and Clinical Context
The Zero-Fluoro Safety Index is a predictive tool designed to estimate the safety and success probability of cardiac ablation procedures performed without fluoroscopy. Traditional fluoroscopy exposes both patients and staff to ionizing radiation, which may increase long-term health risks. This index incorporates key patient and procedural factors, including patient age, atrial fibrillation type, number of prior ablation procedures, and left atrial diameter, to generate a composite score.
The score stratifies patients into low, intermediate, and high risk categories, providing an estimation of procedural success probability. It assists electrophysiologists in pre-procedural planning, patient counseling, and allocation of appropriate technologies such as intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and electroanatomical mapping systems.
