BASDAI Ankylosing Activity Index Calculator
- BASDAI Ankylosing Activity Index Explanation and Clinical Context
The Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index is a validated instrument used to quantify disease activity in ankylosing spondylitis. This tool evaluates six core symptoms that include fatigue spinal pain peripheral joint pain enthesitis and two measures related to morning stiffness. Each component reflects a central aspect of inflammatory burden that influences daily mobility and quality of life in affected individuals.
Scores range from zero to ten. A value of four or more commonly indicates clinically significant disease activity that may require escalation of therapy. The BASDAI assists clinicians by offering a structured and reproducible method to assess response to treatment and to support therapeutic decisions in routine practice. This index remains widely used for both clinical care and research due to its simplicity and strong correlation with patient reported outcomes.
