Cost-Effectiveness of Statin Therapy by Age Risk Model Calculator

  • Age (years)
  • Sex
  • 10-year ASCVD risk (%) Use Pooled Cohort Equations or a validated external calculator; enter percentage (e.g., 7.5)
  • Statin intensity
  • Assumed RRR (%) Typical defaults: Moderate ≈ 25%; High ≈ 35%
  • Monthly statin cost (USD)
  • Annual monitoring cost (USD/year)
  • Average direct medical cost of one ASCVD event (USD)
  • QALY loss per ASCVD event
  • Daily pill disutility (QALY/year)
  • Excess diabetes risk (%)
  • QALY loss per year with diabetes
  • WTP threshold (USD/QALY)
  • Time horizon (years)
  • Cost-Effectiveness of Statin Therapy by Age/Risk Model: Explanation and Clinical Context
This calculator implements a transparent, adjustable cost-effectiveness framework for primary-prevention statin therapy anchored to a patient’s 10-year ASCVD risk and therapy intensity.
It estimates absolute risk reduction as baseline risk × RRR and converts events prevented into QALYs. Treatment disutility and excess diabetes risk reduce net QALYs. Costs include drug, monitoring, and offset by events avoided. Outputs: net QALYs, net costs, ICER, NMB, and decision vs WTP threshold.
