- ESC Pulmonary Embolism (PE) Risk Table 2020: Explanation and Clinical Context
The ESC PE Risk Table 2020 is a validated tool used to stratify patients with acute pulmonary embolism according to 30-day mortality risk. The score is calculated using simple clinical parameters available at presentation: age >80 years, heart rate >110 bpm, systolic blood pressure <100 mmHg, oxygen saturation <90%, and a history of cancer or heart failure/chronic lung disease.
Each positive parameter scores 1 point, and the total points define the risk category from low to high.
This risk stratification guides clinical decisions, including the need for intensive monitoring, anticoagulation strategies, and consideration for reperfusion therapies in high-risk patients.
