Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP) Calculator
- Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP): Explanation and Clinical Context
LAP is an index that quantifies lipid overaccumulation based on waist circumference and fasting triglyceride levels. It is designed to identify individuals with excess visceral fat and elevated cardiometabolic risk.
The formula differs by sex: for men, LAP = (waist circumference [cm] - 65) × triglycerides [mmol/L]; for women, LAP = (waist circumference [cm] - 58) × triglycerides [mmol/L].
Higher LAP values correlate with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and increased risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
This tool provides clinicians with a simple, yet effective method to stratify cardiometabolic risk using readily available clinical measures.
