  • MitraClip MR Severity Reduction Index: Explanation and Clinical Context
The MitraClip MR Severity Reduction Index quantifies the procedural success and functional benefit after percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral valve repair. It combines the reduction in mitral regurgitation (MR) severity and the expected improvement in left ventricular function, expressed as an integrated numeric score.

A higher index reflects both effective MR reduction and predicted favorable left ventricular remodeling, parameters known to correlate with symptomatic and prognostic improvement in MitraClip-treated patients.

This tool is inspired by clinical evidence from registries and pivotal trials such as COAPT, EVEREST II, and EXPAND, where the extent of MR reduction and LV reverse remodeling were independent predictors of outcomes.
