  • RDW-CV Index: Explanation and Clinical Context
The RDW-CV Index is derived from the Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) coefficient of variation relative to Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV).
It reflects the degree of anisocytosis (variability in red blood cell size) and is increasingly recognized as a prognostic biomarker in cardiovascular diseases.
Elevated RDW-CV Index has been associated with higher risk of mortality and adverse outcomes in patients with heart failure, coronary artery disease, and other cardiovascular conditions.
It provides additional insight beyond hemoglobin levels and standard red cell indices, helping clinicians stratify risk and monitor disease progression.
