The Saint Louis University Mental Status Examination is a cognitive screening tool used to identify early cognitive decline and neurocognitive disorders. It evaluates multiple domains that include orientation memory attention executive function visuospatial ability and delayed recall. The test is sensitive for detecting mild neurocognitive disorder which may not be captured by other tools. Scores range from zero to thirty and interpretation depends on the total performance without educational stratification for this calculator. Lower scores indicate a higher likelihood of cognitive dysfunction. This tool supports clinicians in identifying patients who may need further neuropsychological evaluation or additional diagnostic workup.
