  • WHO Functional Class (1-4)

  • Right Atrial Pressure (RAP in mmHg)
  • Cardiac Index (CI in L/min/m²)
  • Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Risk Index: Explanation and Clinical Context
The Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Risk Index is a validated scoring system to estimate prognosis in children with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It combines clinical (WHO Functional Class), biomarker (NT-proBNP), exercise capacity (6-minute walk distance), hemodynamic parameters (right atrial pressure and cardiac index) to stratify patients into low, intermediate, or high risk for adverse outcomes.
The score helps clinicians in risk stratification, therapy escalation, and follow-up intensity decisions. Each parameter contributes points based on thresholds derived from pediatric PAH registry data, such as REVEAL 2.0 pediatric modification.
A higher total score correlates with worse prognosis and higher risk of clinical deterioration.
