Gestational Age Calculator
- Gestational Age Calculator Explanation and Clinical Context
Gestational age is the estimation of fetal age counted from the first day of the last menstrual period. This method is widely used in obstetric practice as a standard approach to determine fetal maturity level, monitor fetal development, schedule antenatal visits, and plan delivery timing. The calculation describes pregnancy progress in weeks and days which provides a clinically important timeline for fetal organ development, screening schedules, ultrasound evaluation, and maternal fetal risk assessment. Gestational age also helps clinicians evaluate fetal growth deviation including small for gestational age and large for gestational age which may indicate maternal or fetal complications requiring clinical attention. The normal duration of pregnancy ranges from week thirty seven up to week forty two categorized as term pregnancy. Below the lower limit is considered preterm and beyond the upper limit is post term pregnancy that may carry increased perinatal risk.
