  • BRUE Low Risk Evaluation Tool Explanation
BRUE stands for Brief Resolved Unexplained Event and refers to a transient episode in infants characterized by cyanosis or pallor abnormal breathing marked change in tone or altered responsiveness which has returned to baseline at presentation. The American Academy of Pediatrics classifies infants as low risk when they meet all specific criteria including age over sixty days single event less than sixty seconds no requirement of CPR full term birth and no concerning medical history or abnormal physical findings. Low risk identification helps clinicians decide which infants can be observed without extensive workup while high risk cases may benefit from targeted investigation to evaluate underlying causes such as infection neurologic disorders cardiac pathology or gastrointestinal problems. This tool supports structured evaluation improves decision making and minimizes unnecessary intervention while still ensuring patient safety.
