  • Ambulatory Blood Pressure Variability (ABPV) Index: Explanation and Clinical Context
The Ambulatory Blood Pressure Variability (ABPV) Index quantifies the fluctuations of blood pressure over 24 hours using data from ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). It provides several metrics including mean BP, standard deviation (SD), coefficient of variation (CV), and average real variability (ARV) to comprehensively assess short-term BP variability.
High BP variability is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, including stroke, myocardial infarction, and target organ damage, independent of mean blood pressure levels. Monitoring ABPV can help guide antihypertensive therapy selection, optimize BP control, and predict cardiovascular outcomes.
This tool allows clinicians to input a series of SBP and DBP readings and automatically calculate ABPV indices, providing a practical approach to assess BP stability.
