- Neck Disability Index Explanation and Clinical Context
The Neck Disability Index is a widely used patient reported outcome measure for evaluating functional impairment related to neck pain. It assesses ten domains of daily activities which include pain intensity personal care lifting reading headaches concentration work driving sleeping and recreation. Each item provides six possible responses scored from zero to five with a higher score indicating greater disability. The total raw score which ranges from zero to fifty is converted into a percentage to describe the overall disability burden. Interpretation categories include no disability mild disability moderate disability severe disability and complete disability. This tool is valuable for clinical assessment monitoring of treatment response and documentation of functional limitations.
