  • Net Reclassification Index (NRI): Explanation and Clinical Context
    The Net Reclassification Index (NRI) is a statistical metric used to quantify the improvement in risk prediction offered by a new model compared to an existing model.
    It evaluates whether individuals with events (cases) are more correctly reclassified into higher risk categories and whether individuals without events (non-cases) are correctly reclassified into lower risk categories.
    Mathematically, NRI is calculated as the sum of the difference between proportions of events moving up versus down in risk categories and the difference between proportions of non-events moving down versus up.
    A positive NRI indicates better predictive performance of the new model. NRI is commonly applied in cardiovascular risk prediction studies, biomarker assessment, and clinical decision-making.
